Bayfront Maritime Center (BMC)

The Bayfront Maritime Center (BMC) is a waterfront facility operated by the Erie Maritime Foundation, a nonprofit organization. The BMC’s mission is to provide engaging, hands-on maritime-themed educational, vocational, and recreational opportunities for the community.

It focuses on interactive learning experiences such as boatbuilding workshops, sailing lessons, and educational tours. Through these initiatives, the BMC aims to foster a deeper connection to Erie’s maritime heritage while offering accessible skill-building opportunities for all. Serving as a dynamic hub for maritime education and recreation, the Bayfront Maritime Center enriches the community’s understanding and appreciation of Erie’s maritime legacy.

One notable project associated with the BMC is the Schooner Porcupine, which aims to build a historically accurate replica of the original 1813 vessel.

Unlike the Erie Maritime Museum, the BMC is not affiliated with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
