Tyler Gum

Tyler Gum is the Western Division Chief for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Bureau of Historic Sites and Museums. In that role, he is part of the management structure overseeing PHMC historic sites in western Pennsylvania, including the Erie Maritime Museum and the U.S. Brig Niagara.

Gum was appointed site administrator of the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg in 2016. Before joining PHMC, he worked as a National Park Service ranger, a history lecturer at Penn State Altoona, in private-sector client relations, and legislative liaison work.

After Walter Rybka retired from the Erie Maritime Museum in July 2020, Gum served as the museum’s interim site administrator until James E. Hall took over the permanent position in December 2020.

PHMC announced Gum’s promotion to Western Division Chief in June 2025. The position involves oversight of site administrators and coordination of operational, personnel, budget, policy, and programming matters across PHMC properties in western Pennsylvania.
